Meet Laura
Welcome! I consider it a privilege to walk alongside another’s life journey. Taking the first step and researching counselors can be nerve-wracking. I am here to provide a warm, relaxed, compassionate and open-minded space to explore your concerns and goals. (I also value a sprinkle of humor). When treating ADHD, you NEED a therapist who wholeheartedly understands it and whose strategies are flexible to meet your specific needs. Imposing “neurotypical” ways of thought and behavior —does not—work for the ADHD brain. I am passionate about finding creative ways to help individuals with ADHD learn to accept themselves and thrive.
I specialize in ADHD (teens and adults), pregnancy/postpartum issues, parenting stress, and challenges associated with body image and eating disorders, as well as navigating complex health issues. As a former teacher, I am well-versed with teacher-related stress and burnout. I am also able to offer a Christian perspective to those who desire it.
When we can be fully open about our struggles, be fully heard, and both understood and accepted for who we are by another human being— at our lowest point— then, we can begin to grow. This is the mission behind “Grace to Shine Counseling.”
Laura graduated from McDaniel College with a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018. Prior to her work in counseling, she taught middle school and high school in Howard County Public Schools (she gets how crazy being a teacher is and the constant stress they are under. Did someone mention “SLOs and unannounced observations?”). Laura is passionate about helping others understand and accept their ADHD. She keeps up with the latest science behind it by traveling to ADHD conferences across the nation. In her spare time, Laura enjoys chasing her children around, biking, listening to music, (going to the beach if you couldn’t tell) and watching re-runs of her favorite series, “LOST” and “The Office.”
